NOD32 is designed by ESET company that has a long and excellent reputation throughout long hard work years in the market of antivirus utilities. In fact, NOD32 is a NOD advanced version. NOD was the first antivirus of the company (in 1992) and it was run over the DOS operative system. NOD32 launch was performed in 1998. Since 2.70.39 version, the program supports Windows Vista.
"NOD" is an acronym that stands for "Nemocnica na Okraji Disku", which in English would read “Hospital at the Edge of the Disk” and which was a very popular TV series when the first version was launched.
