This application has been created in 1998, being integrated within the utilities provided by Windows 98 operative system, launched to the market the same year.

6.1 was the first version launched to the market, and it was characterized by its high response capacity when using it: it is as simply as only introducing C:\Program files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe on the start run option, you can have access to this application. That same year the 6.4 version was launched to the market, that at the same time it is compatible with Windows 95/98/NT4.0.

It was only in 2000 when the application was completely revolutionized, presenting a complete compatibility with several operative systems and portable devices that was launched to the market.

Nowadays, the latest version of this application is 12.0, which is in its BETA phase, with the purpose of optimising it according to the new computer prototypes that will predominate on the market of this millennium.

As it was expected, a player with many years and the efficiency of Windows Media Player it should have all the different complements that will allow to personalize even more the software.

The added elements that can be implemented in the player with the purpose of totally adapting the program to the user, is described as follows:

Vaga-Lume.

This little added element allows the user to read the lyrics of their favourite songs while they are listening to them.

The best advantage of this plugin is that it neither slows the computer nor have any problem with the system.

Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin. .

This plugin has two different methodologies:

  • As a visual topic: including a visual aspect to the browser window similar to Firefox, where the colours, lights, buttons and all the visual background will be adapted as if it were a player.
  • As a player controller: a small bar is added to Firefox that will allow you to administrate from the browser the audio reproduction. All functions that Windows Media Player uses will be placed in this bar.

DirectShow filter for OGG .

  • Thanks to this added element you will reproduce all the files that are in OGG format, although with a different efficiency as regards other file reproduction, but you can obtain excellent results.

Lyrics

  • Lyrics is another added element that shows the lyrics of the songs being played. Although it has not the same function as Vaga-Lume, it has some visual differences and they also have different server to get their result.
