Installation and User Manual of AVG Antivirus Free.

  • The installation of AVG Antivirus Free is very simple and it can be performed in a couple of minutes. The first thing that shows up after executing the program installer is the following screen:

Image:avgav1.jpg

  • Here you will see the welcome screen where you will find some warnings about the program’s copyright. Click on “Next” to continue.
  • The following screen corresponds to the license of use; it warns about the fact that the program has no commercial purposes and that the use beyond the personal and private scope is forbidden:

  • when clicking on “Accept”, you express your conformity to the license and the installation proceeds.

This is the complete License of Use. It is suggested to read it completely before installing the software:

  • Select “Accept” to continue.

In the following screen, you select the installation type:

Image:avgav4.jpg

  • 1) This is the “Standard” installation, recommended for all users. It installs all the components automatically.
  • 2) The “Custom” installation is for advanced users. It allows modifying some aspects (not recommended if you have no experience).

Click on “Next” to continue.

  • The following screen offers information for the user:

  • In the number 1 field, you enter the user name of the PC user.
  • In the number 2 field, the license number shows up.

Click on “Next” to continue.

  • Let’s go to the following screen:

Image:avgav6.jpg

  • In this screen the user is asked to decide whether to install the toolbar “AVG Security Toolbar”, therefore, if you would like to do so, select the checkbox which is highlighted in a red box in the image. Click on “Next” to continue with the installation of AVG Antivirus Free.

The screenshot you will find next represents a summary of the program components that will be installed in your PC.

  • To finish with the installation, click on “Finish” with the mouse left button.

The following screen is seen during the installation:

  • Automatically, it will go to the following screen which informs that the installation has been completed:

  • Click on “OK”, the installation has been completed.

One of AVG Antivirus Free advantages is its easy use. This is the reason why the program counts on a configuration assistant which in seven steps will help you configure the program to run optimally in your PC.

Click on “Next” to continue.

In the following screen you configure the daily scanning (step 2):

Image:avgav11.jpg

  • In the field marked with the number 1, it is possible to establish the time of the day in which the scan will be performed. Obviously, it has to be a time when the computer is on.

The checkbox marked with the number 2 is to enable the daily scan (it is the recommended option to keep an efficient protection).

The following is a screen which enables the program to gather information about dangerous web sites (step 3).

Image:avgav12.jpg

  • If you want to enable the program to send information to AVG, you have to activate the checkbox marked in red. Then, click on “Next” to continue.

Step 4 is omitted in our installation process (it is used when installing the “Custom” version); therefore, it is not included in our description.

Step 5 is to perform program updates:

  • Click on “Skip” (1), to avoid updates.

Click on “Next” (2), to proceed with the updates.

The following two screens correspond to step 6:

Updates being downloaded:

  • Updates downloaded correctly:

  • Click on “Next” to go to the registration screen:

Image:avgav16.jpg

  • By clicking on the button marked in red, you access the AVG Antivirus Free website to be able to register the product (remember it is free of charge). If you do not want to register the product right away, click on “Next”.

The registration is necessary for the activation of the product. In the program main page you will be requested a valid e-mail address where the company will send a code to activate the program online. The registration process takes only a couple of seconds.

The following is the step 7 (and final):

  • By clicking on “Finish” you finish the program configuration.

AVG Antivirus Free still resides in the Windows notifications area:

Image:avgav18.jpg

  • You just need to double click on the program icon to access the program screen:

Image:avgav19.jpg

  • In the main view (“Overview”) you can see 7 elements. Each of them shows their status under the name (written in green).

In this case, all the elements are “Active”.

1) This is the antivirus icon.

2) Anti spyware.

3) E-mail detector.

4) Program License.

5) Link Scanner (safe searches in the Internet).

6) System Shield (it verifies the opening and copy of files, in case there are viruses there).

7) Updates Manager (if it is active, it enables program updates).

If you pay attention to these elements, besides the main view (“Overview”) there are two more tabs: the system scanner (“Computer Scanner”) and the tool to update the program manually (“Update now”).

  • Let’s go to the system scanner (“Computer Scanner”):

Image:avgav20.jpg

  • In this screen, the user will be able to perform a virus detection with the predefined parameters (1), or to perform a “specific scan” of the folder (2). It is also possible to program a task in the window “Schedule scans” (3).

Let’s go to “Scan specific files or folders”:

Image:avgav21.jpg

  • In the spaces marked with number 1, it is possible to select the physical places where to perform the scan. Number 2 shows the specific locations (local hard drives, Program Files, “My Documents” folder, Shared Files and Windows directory) where to perform the scan. In the frame marked with number 3, it is possible to select the scan speed: the slower, the more specific it will be, but it will consume more system resources; conversely, if the scan is fast, it will take less system resources, but the scan will not be that exhaustive; “Automatic scan” is the intermediate option between both of them.

Select your choice and click on “Start scan” to initiate the task.

  • Now, let’s go to the updates. Although the updates are performed automatically before the daily scan is performed, you can also access to the updates manually in the tab “Update Now”:

Image:avgav22.jpg

When you enter this area, the program looks for the most recent updates. When the updates are complete, you will see the following screen:

Image:avgav23.jpg

  • Here you will see that the updates are complete and that, therefore, the system is safe. To leave this screen click on “Close”.

When the program adjustments are finished, you just have to minimize it to the notifications area by clicking on “minimize” or “close” in the title bar.

We hope you have found this manual useful
