Nero Installation Manual and Characteristics.

After starting Nero installer, wait until the necessary files are extracted to continue (1).

You can select the language of the installer widget to continue (1), and then click on “Next”.

You can read the conditions of use of “Nero (1) and then tick all the corresponding boxes (2) to continue installation: Install Nero in Ask tool bar or Install Nero without Ask tool bar.

Click “Next” (3).

Enter the serial number to continue (1) and click “Next” (2).

Read the site license with the right bar (1) and tick the box ”I accept the Site License” (2). Click on “Next” (3.

Select the installation type “Standard” and then click “Next” (2).

Wait until the installation of “Nero StartSmart” finishes. You can see its progress in the lower bar (1).

Once the installation has finished, click on “Next” (1).

Nero StartSmart has successfully been installed on your computer, click “Close'” (1).

In order to have access to the Nero menu, you can select the following path: “Start” button, “All Programs”, “Nero”, “Nero 9”, and select “Nero Express”.

Most users use "Nero Express” because of its simple interface.

You can chose among diverse options, bearing in mind the type os task you need to perform. Some of them are: “Data”, “Music”, “Videos/Images” and “Image, project, copy”

This Nero distribution has multimedia added elements, such as PhotoSnap Viewer (to visualize photo galleries), WaveEditor (for audio edition), Nero Vision (for creating home videos), Nero Live (for watching TV or Radio content on the Web), Nero Recode (for storing information from a defective CD or DVD), apart from the classic Nero Burning ROM.

May be the most interesting option is Nero StartSmart interface, which has buttons with all Nero functions includes, and in an intuitive way it allows a less experienced user to chose projects quickly, apart form including an option for doing security copies of you files automatically.

[edit] How to start the program

Once you have finished the installation in the desktop, an icon called “StartSmart” will be added, and you have to double click there to enter the general interface of the program.

Once you are within the application, you will be able to see the following screen

Here begins the first interaction between the user and the program. According to the user’s need, the program provides a wide range of options.

NeroSmart is the combination of all Nero activities (Nero Vision, Nero BuckItUp, Nero Burning ROM, Nero CoverDesing, Nero Express, Nero Home, Nero MediaHome, Nero PhotoSnap, Nero PhotoSnap Viewer, Nero Recoder, Nero ShowTime, Nero SoundTrax, Nero WaveEditor). From this one, you can achieve a great number of functions and it can be run all the little applications that the program has.

In the upper part you can see 5 different buttons through which you can gain access to more detailed and specific functions.

Contrary to this, and if you want to work quickly, at the left there are four buttons, with which you can access to basic options.

Below, four left buttons are detailed.

The first one –“Data Recording”.

Once you click in it, you can gain access to a very simple interface where you just have to choose the files to record in the CD. It is worth mentioning that this option is only for data recording. There is a different option for audio recording.

Once you’ve selected the files, you just have to click in the “record” button and wait till the recording process ends. Once it has finished, you can extract the CD from the writer and ready.

The second button is “Audio Recording” which interface can be seen is very similar to the first one.

When recording an audio CD, the process will be similar to the previous explained point, the only difference is that the previous one is the added element of two characteristics: the first one is the time bar (sector which the user can see how much free disk space he or she has), and the second one is a little box where you can add the name of the artist that will be recorded.

The third button is “Audio Copy” with which you can record files from a CD to the computer.

You just have to insert the CD in the computer, and then select the source unit. Then you have to choose output format and destination directory. Once you have set these parameters, you click in Copy and in a few minutes you will have your CD stored in your computer.

The fourth and last button is “Copy Disc”.

This button is similar to the third one, maybe much simpler since it is you only need to select a CD and then the copy option. Once done this, you should wait until the copy finishes.

The four buttons work very quickly and have not great settings so that they can work quickly.

Regarding the five upper buttons, you will be able to see five different titles.

1) Home Page.

In which you will be able to manage different options and utilities to which you can automatically enter without having to investigate and explore the program.

To enter and remove shortcuts, you just have to click in the Add/Remove button and tick in the buttons list you want to add.

2) Copy and Record.

Once you have chosen this button, you will be able to see different categories. Each of them has a specific option. As you can see, the first two have already been seen in the previous buttons. But it has already been mentioned, they are shortcuts.

2.1) Copy Audio CD.

The interface is more advanced this time and has more setting options that are useful for enhancing different aspects of the files to be stored in the computer.

The most important and outstanding buttons are: Select All (with which all the files are automatically selected), Output Format (you have to select which format you want for the output file), Route (from where you want to make the copy, Name Creation Method, Output Form (Analogical or Digital) and Options (where you will finish to polish details. This option tends to be for advanced users).

2.2) Burn Audio CD.

It is similar to its shortcut, but it has some more options. For burning, you should only need to start adding files from “Add”. Once you have finished, press “Next”, set the last aspects and select “Next” again.

2.3) Burn JukeBox Disc.

It is a very similar interface to the Audio CD Recording and Audio CD Copy. You should only select the files from “Add” and then set up some recording basic options.

2.4) Burn Data Disc.

You can burn data CD with this option: you should only select “Add” and start adding files for burning them later on.

2.5) Burn Video Disc.

When you enter, you will see a simple interface with very few buttons. The most outstanding is “Add” with which you will upload the files to be recorded in the CD.

2.6) Copy Disc.

You should select some basic parameters on this interface, such as the source unit, destination unit, quick copy, recording speed, number of copies and image files.

Once they have been determined, you can start the recording clicking “Copy”.

3) Create and Edit.

Again, within this button, there are various options related to images, audio and video edition and creation.

Depending on the task, you will select the appropriate action.

3.1) Edit your Photos.

In this section, you can work on image edition in an easy way. You should only open an image and start working with the software, to do so you should have tools which are spread on the upper left side of the interface.

3.2) Create Photo Slideshow.

In this section of the program, you can edit slideshows in a very simple way. Besides, you can add some specific effects. Once you have finished the presentation, you will store it in the hard disc and then save it with the same Nero application.

3.3) Mix, compose and “scratch”.

With this option you can create different effects that will allow you to modify some important aspects of a song. You will be able to edit the song time, background sounds, the rhythm and some other aspects that will make it possible to obtain unique creations.

3.4) Edit and Record Sound Files.

Nero in this version includes the possibility of editing audio files, with the purpose of achieving an optimum quality and to fully enjoy or burn them into a disc.

This interface and its tool are very simple, so there will be no problem to understand it.

3.5) Create, Edit and Capture a Video.

Here there are various very useful functions, with which it will be possible from capturing a video to recording it.

The interface has detailed information on the aspects that can be worked on. You can capture some videos, add them effect, perform it on a slideshow base, import it from the Web, and many more things.

Once you have finished the creation, you will be able to record the results.

3.6) Create Disc Labels or Covers.

As state by the option, with this utility you can create different cover types to be printed.

3.7) Convert audio files.

This tool works in a very simply and fast. You just have to choose the files to record and then the output format.

Once you have selected these parameters, it is possible to perform the recording without any problem.

4.1) Audio Playing.

It has a powerful audio player that can reproduce any kind of audio format.

4.2) Reproduce Videos and Slideshow.

It has a placer which allows seeing Videos and Slideshows creations. The player is very similar to those used nowadays, with less functions but with the same efficiency.

4.3) See Photos.

With this option you can see photos in a simple and nice way.

4.4) Multimedia Management.

With this utility you can order all the multimedia information you have in your computer.

4.5) Watch Live TV.

You don't have to leave your computer anymore to watch your favourite TV program. Now Nero has this option that allows its user to watch TV channels through Internet.

Apart form watching them, users will have other advantages like recording stream content being transmitted, add favourites, retransmit a video, etc.

4.6) Web service Manager.

With this tool you can manage all the web services that you generally use. It is very useful since it allows its entire user to enjoy quick access and other advantages.

The program works through a fast shortcut system which allows increasing considerably the working speed.

4.7) Share Music, Photos and Videos.

It is possible to have a net system with some friend or relative in which you can create different shared folders and to which both computers can gain access, and they can also be share through the web.

4.8) Retransmit TV.

This tool is especially designed to retransmit live TV channels, thus allowing many people to enjoy them.

Lastly, the fifth button of this main interface is based in the security of the files to be recorded.

It also has five buttons including: “Data Security Copy”, “Restoration of Security Copies”, “Program Security Copies”, “Create Disc of Security Recovering” and “Copy Disc”.

The main “Nero RescueAgent” function is avoiding any possibility of losing data, in case of having allowed their recovery.

Due to all this options, Nero keeps being the leading IT enterprise. If you were looking for a tool to record, Nero multimedia files creation and edition is a tool that should be tried.
